2Saul7586 chose977 him three7969 thousand505 men of Israel3478; whereof two thousand505 were with Saul7586 in Michmash4363 and in mount2022 Bethel1008, and a thousand505 were with Jonathan3129 in Gibeah1390 of Benjamin1144: and the rest3499 of the people5971 he sent7971 every man376 to his tent168.
3And Jonathan3129 smote5221 the garrison5333 of the Philistines6430 that was in Geba1387, and the Philistines6430 heard8085 of it. And Saul7586 blew8628 the trumpet7782 throughout all the land776, saying559, Let the Hebrews5680 hear8085.
4And all Israel3478 heard8085 say559 that Saul7586 had smitten5221 a garrison5333 of the Philistines6430, and that Israel3478 also was had in abomination887 with the Philistines6430. And the people5971 were called together6817 after310 Saul7586 to Gilgal1537.
5And the Philistines6430 gathered themselves together622 to fight3898 with Israel3478, thirty7970 thousand505 chariots7393, and six8337 thousand505 horsemen6571, and people5971 as the sand2344 which is on the sea3220 shore8193 in multitude7230: and they came up5927, and pitched2583 in Michmash4363, eastward6926 from Bethaven1007.
6When the men376 of Israel3478 saw7200 that they were in a strait6887, (for the people5971 were distressed5065,) then the people5971 did hide2244 themselves in caves4631, and in thickets2337, and in rocks5553, and in high places6877, and in pits953.
7And some of the Hebrews5680 went over5674 Jordan3383 to the land776 of Gad1410 and Gilead1568. As for Saul7586, he was yet in Gilgal1537, and all the people5971 followed310 him trembling2729.

13And Samuel8050 said559 to Saul7586, Thou hast done foolishly5528: thou hast not kept8104 the commandment4687 of the LORD3068 thy God430, which he commanded6680 thee: for now would the LORD3068 have established3559 thy kingdom4467 upon Israel3478 for5704 ever5769.
14But now thy kingdom4467 shall not continue6965: the LORD3068 hath sought1245 him a man376 after his own heart3824, and the LORD3068 hath commanded6680 him to be captain5057 over his people5971, because thou hast not kept8104 that which the LORD3068 commanded6680 thee.

18And another259 company7218 turned6437 the way1870 to Bethhoron1032: and another259 company7218 turned6437 to the way1870 of the border1366 that looketh8259 to the valley1516 of Zeboim6650 toward the wilderness4057.
19Now there was no smith2796 found4672 throughout all the land776 of Israel3478: for the Philistines6430 said559, Lest the Hebrews5680 make6213 them swords2719 or spears2595:
20But all the Israelites3478 went down3381 to the Philistines6430, to sharpen3913 every man376 his share4282, and his coulter855, and his axe7134, and his mattock4281.
21Yet they had a file6477 6310 for the mattocks4281, and for the coulters855, and for the forks7969 7053, and for the axes7134, and to sharpen5324 the goads1861.
22So it came to pass in the day3117 of battle4421, that there was neither sword2719 nor spear2595 found4672 in the hand3027 of any of the people5971 that were with Saul7586 and Jonathan3129: but with Saul7586 and with Jonathan3129 his son1121 was there found4672.
23And the garrison4673 of the Philistines6430 went out3318 to the passage4569 of Michmash4363.
