2And had taken the women802 captives7617, that were therein: they slew4191 not any376, either great1419 or small6996, but carried them away5090, and went3212 on their way1870.
3So David1732 and his men582 came935 to the city5892, and, behold, it was burned8313 with fire784; and their wives802, and their sons1121, and their daughters1323, were taken captives7617.
4Then David1732 and the people5971 that were with him lifted up5375 their voice6963 and wept1058, until they had no more power3581 to weep1058.
5And David's1732 two8147 wives802 were taken captives7617, Ahinoam293 the Jezreelitess3159, and Abigail26 the wife802 of Nabal5037 the Carmelite3761.
6And David1732 was greatly3966 distressed3334; for the people5971 spake559 of stoning5619 him, because the soul5315 of all the people5971 was grieved4843, every man376 for his sons1121 and for his daughters1323: but David1732 encouraged2388 himself in the LORD3068 his God430.

8And David1732 enquired7592 at the LORD3068, saying559, Shall I pursue7291 after310 this troop1416? shall I overtake5381 them? And he answered559 him, Pursue7291: for thou shalt surely5381 overtake5381 them, and without fail5337 recover5337 all.
9So David1732 went3212, he and the six8337 hundred3967 men376 that were with him, and came935 to the brook5158 Besor1308, where those that were left behind3498 stayed5975.
10But David1732 pursued7291, he and four702 hundred3967 men376: for two hundred3967 abode behind5975, which were so faint6296 that they could not go over5674 the brook5158 Besor1308.
11And they found4672 an Egyptian376 4713 in the field7704, and brought3947 him to David1732, and gave5414 him bread3899, and he did eat398; and they made him drink8248 water4325;
12And they gave5414 him a piece6400 of a cake1690 of figs, and two8147 clusters of raisins6778: and when he had eaten398, his spirit7307 came again7725 to him: for he had eaten398 no bread3899, nor drunk8354 any water4325, three7969 days3117 and three7969 nights3915.

14We made an invasion6584 upon the south5045 of the Cherethites3774, and upon the coast which belongeth to Judah3063, and upon the south5045 of Caleb3612; and we burned8313 Ziklag6860 with fire784.
15And David1732 said559 to him, Canst thou bring me down3381 to this company1416? And he said559, Swear7650 unto me by God430, that thou wilt neither kill4191 me, nor518 deliver5462 me into the hands3027 of my master113, and I will bring thee down3381 to this company1416.
16And when he had brought him down3381, behold, they were spread abroad5203 upon all6440 the earth776, eating398 and drinking8354, and dancing2287, because of all the great1419 spoil7998 that they had taken3947 out of the land776 of the Philistines6430, and out of the land776 of Judah3063.
17And David1732 smote5221 them from the twilight5399 even unto the evening6153 of the next day4283: and there escaped4422 not a man376 of them, save four702 hundred3967 young5288 men376, which rode7392 upon camels1581, and fled5127.
18And David1732 recovered5337 all that the Amalekites6002 had carried away3947: and David1732 rescued5337 his two8147 wives802.
19And there was nothing lacking5737 to them, neither4480 small6996 nor great1419, neither sons1121 nor daughters1323, neither spoil7998, nor any thing that they had taken3947 to them: David1732 recovered7725 all.
20And David1732 took3947 all the flocks6629 and the herds1241, which they drave5090 before6440 those1931 other cattle4735, and said559, This is David's1732 spoil7998.
21And David1732 came935 to the two hundred3967 men582, which were so faint6296 that they could not follow3212 310 David1732, whom they had made also to abide3427 at the brook5158 Besor1308: and they went forth3318 to meet7125 David1732, and to meet7125 the people5971 that were with him: and when David1732 came near5066 to the people5971, he saluted7592 7965 them.
22Then answered6030 all the wicked7451 men376 and men of Belial1100, of those582 that went1980 with David1732, and said559, Because they went1980 not with us, we will not give5414 them ought of the spoil7998 that we have recovered5337, save to every man376 his wife802 and his children1121, that they may lead them away5090, and depart3212.
23Then said559 David1732, Ye shall not do so6213, my brethren251, with that which the LORD3068 hath given5414 us, who hath preserved8104 us, and delivered5414 the company1416 that came935 against us into our hand3027.
24For who will hearken8085 unto you in this matter1697? but as his part2506 is that goeth down3381 3381 to the battle4421, so shall his part2506 be that tarrieth3427 by the stuff3627: they shall part2505 alike3162.
25And it was so from that day3117 forward4605, that he made7760 it a statute2706 and an ordinance4941 for Israel3478 unto this day3117.
26And when David1732 came935 to Ziklag6860, he sent7971 of the spoil7998 unto the elders2205 of Judah3063, even to his friends7453, saying559, Behold a present1293 for you of the spoil7998 of the enemies341 of the LORD3068;
