2Wherefore the people5971 did chide7378 with Moses4872, and said559, Give5414 us water4325 that we may drink8354. And Moses4872 said559 unto them, Why chide7378 ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt5254 the LORD3068?
3And the people5971 thirsted6770 there for water4325; and the people5971 murmured3885 against Moses4872, and said559, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought5927 us up out of Egypt4714, to kill4191 us and our children1121 and our cattle4735 with thirst6772?
4And Moses4872 cried6817 unto the LORD3068, saying559, What shall I do6213 unto this people5971? they be almost4592 ready to stone5619 me.
5And the LORD3068 said559 unto Moses4872, Go on5674 before6440 the people5971, and take3947 with thee of the elders2205 of Israel3478; and thy rod4294, wherewith thou smotest5221 the river2975, take3947 in thine hand3027, and go1980.
6Behold, I will stand5975 before6440 thee there upon the rock6697 in Horeb2722; and thou shalt smite5221 the rock6697, and there shall come3318 water4325 out of it, that the people5971 may drink8354. And Moses4872 did6213 so in the sight5869 of the elders2205 of Israel3478.
7And he called7121 the name8034 of the place4725 Massah4532, and Meribah4809, because of the chiding7379 of the children1121 of Israel3478, and because they tempted5254 the LORD3068, saying559, Is3426 the LORD3068 among7130 us, or not?
8Then came935 Amalek6002, and fought3898 with Israel3478 in Rephidim7508.
9And Moses4872 said559 unto Joshua3091, Choose us out977 men582, and go out3318, fight3898 with Amalek6002: to morrow4279 I will stand5324 on the top7218 of the hill1389 with the rod4294 of God430 in mine hand3027.
10So Joshua3091 did6213 as Moses4872 had said559 to him, and fought3898 with Amalek6002: and Moses4872, Aaron175, and Hur2354 went up5927 to the top7218 of the hill1389.
11And it came to pass, when Moses4872 held up7311 his hand3027, that Israel3478 prevailed1396: and when he let down5117 his hand3027, Amalek6002 prevailed1396.
12But Moses'4872 hands3027 were heavy3515; and they took3947 a stone68, and put7760 it under him, and he sat3427 thereon; and Aaron175 and Hur2354 stayed up8551 his hands3027, the one on the one side259, and the other on the other side259; and his hands3027 were steady530 until the going down935 of the sun8121.
13And Joshua3091 discomfited2522 Amalek6002 and his people5971 with the edge6310 of the sword2719.
14And the LORD3068 said559 unto Moses4872, Write3789 this for a memorial2146 in a book5612, and rehearse7760 it in the ears241 of Joshua3091: for I will utterly4229 put out4229 the remembrance2143 of Amalek6002 from under heaven8064.
15And Moses4872 built1129 an altar4196, and called7121 the name8034 of it Jehovahnissi3071:
16For he said559, Because the LORD3050 hath sworn3027 3676 that the LORD3068 will have war4421 with Amalek6002 from generation1755 to generation1755.
