2What mean ye, that ye use4911 this proverb4912 concerning the land127 of Israel3478, saying559, The fathers1 have eaten398 sour grapes1155, and the children's1121 teeth8127 are set on edge6949?
3As I live2416, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069, ye shall not have occasion any more to use4911 this proverb4912 in Israel3478.
4Behold, all souls5315 are mine; as the soul5315 of the father1, so also the soul5315 of the son1121 is mine: the soul5315 that sinneth2398, it shall die4191.
5But if a man376 be just6662, and do6213 that which is lawful4941 and right6666,
6And hath not eaten398 upon the mountains2022, neither hath lifted up5375 his eyes5869 to the idols1544 of the house1004 of Israel3478, neither hath defiled2930 his neighbour's7453 wife802, neither hath come near7126 to a menstruous5079 woman802,
7And hath not oppressed3238 any376, but hath restored7725 to the debtor2326 his pledge2258, hath spoiled1497 none by violence1500, hath given5414 his bread3899 to the hungry7457, and hath covered3680 the naked5903 with a garment899;
8He that hath not given forth5414 upon usury5392, neither hath taken3947 any increase8636, that hath withdrawn7725 his hand3027 from iniquity5766, hath executed6213 true571 judgment4941 between man376 and man376,
9Hath walked1980 in my statutes2708, and hath kept8104 my judgments4941, to deal6213 truly571; he is just6662, he shall surely2421 live2421, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069.
10If he beget3205 a son1121 that is a robber6530, a shedder8210 of blood1818, and that doeth6213 the like251 to any one259 of these things,
11And that doeth6213 not any of those duties, but even hath eaten398 upon the mountains2022, and defiled2930 his neighbour's7453 wife802,
12Hath oppressed3238 the poor6041 and needy34, hath spoiled1497 by violence1500, hath not restored7725 the pledge2258, and hath lifted up5375 his eyes5869 to the idols1544, hath committed6213 abomination8441,
13Hath given forth5414 upon usury5392, and hath taken3947 increase8636: shall he then live2425? he shall not live2421: he hath done6213 all these abominations8441; he shall surely4191 die4191; his blood1818 shall be upon him.
14Now, lo, if he beget3205 a son1121, that seeth7200 all his father's1 sins2403 which he hath done6213, and considereth7200, and doeth6213 not such like2004,
15That hath not eaten398 upon the mountains2022, neither hath lifted up5375 his eyes5869 to the idols1544 of the house1004 of Israel3478, hath not defiled2930 his neighbour's7453 wife802,
16Neither hath oppressed3238 any376, hath not withholden2254 the pledge2258, neither hath spoiled1497 by violence1500, but hath given5414 his bread3899 to the hungry7457, and hath covered3680 the naked5903 with a garment899,
17That hath taken off7725 his hand3027 from the poor6041, that hath not received3947 usury5392 nor increase8636, hath executed6213 my judgments4941, hath walked1980 in my statutes2708; he shall not die4191 for the iniquity5771 of his father1, he shall surely2421 live2421.
18As for his father1, because he cruelly6233 oppressed6231, spoiled1497 his brother251 by violence1499, and did6213 that which is not good2896 among8432 his people5971, lo, even he shall die4191 in his iniquity5771.
19Yet say559 ye, Why? doth not the son1121 bear5375 the iniquity5771 of the father1? When the son1121 hath done6213 that which is lawful4941 and right6666, and hath kept8104 all my statutes2708, and hath done6213 them, he shall surely2421 live2421.
20The soul5315 that sinneth2398, it shall die4191. The son1121 shall not bear5375 the iniquity5771 of the father1, neither shall the father1 bear5375 the iniquity5771 of the son1121: the righteousness6666 of the righteous6662 shall be upon him, and the wickedness7564 of the wicked7563 shall be upon him.
21But if the wicked7563 will turn7725 from all his sins2403 that he hath committed6213, and keep8104 all my statutes2708, and do6213 that which is lawful4941 and right6666, he shall surely2421 live2421, he shall not die4191.
22All his transgressions6588 that he hath committed6213, they shall not be mentioned2142 unto him: in his righteousness6666 that he hath done6213 he shall live2421.
23Have I any pleasure2654 at all2654 that the wicked7563 should die4194? saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069: and not that he should return7725 from his ways1870, and live2421?
24But when the righteous6662 turneth away7725 from his righteousness6666, and committeth6213 iniquity5766, and doeth6213 according to all the abominations8441 that the wicked7563 man doeth6213, shall he live2425? All his righteousness6666 that he hath done6213 shall not be mentioned2142: in his trespass4603 that he hath trespassed4604, and in his sin2403 that he hath sinned2398, in them shall he die4191.
25Yet ye say559, The way1870 of the Lord136 is not equal8505. Hear8085 now, O house1004 of Israel3478; Is not my way1870 equal8505? are not your ways1870 unequal8505?
26When a righteous6662 man turneth away7725 from his righteousness6666, and committeth6213 iniquity5766, and dieth4191 in them; for his iniquity5766 that he hath done6213 shall he die4191.
27Again, when the wicked7563 man turneth away7725 from his wickedness7564 that he hath committed6213, and doeth6213 that which is lawful4941 and right6666, he shall save2421 his soul5315 alive2421.
28Because he considereth7200, and turneth away7725 from all his transgressions6588 that he hath committed6213, he shall surely2421 live2421, he shall not die4191.
29Yet saith559 the house1004 of Israel3478, The way1870 of the Lord136 is not equal8505. O house1004 of Israel3478, are not my ways1870 equal8505? are not your ways1870 unequal8505?
30Therefore I will judge8199 you, O house1004 of Israel3478, every one376 according to his ways1870, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069. Repent7725, and turn7725 yourselves from all your transgressions6588; so iniquity5771 shall not be your ruin4383.
31Cast away7993 from you all your transgressions6588, whereby ye have transgressed6586; and make6213 you a new2319 heart3820 and a new2319 spirit7307: for why will ye die4191, O house1004 of Israel3478?
32For I have no pleasure2654 in the death4194 of him that dieth4191, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069: wherefore turn7725 yourselves, and live2421 ye.
