Hear8085 ye the word1697 which the LORD3068 speaketh1696 unto you, O house1004 of Israel3478:

Thus saith559 the LORD3068, Learn3925 not the way1870 of the heathen1471, and be not dismayed2865 at the signs226 of heaven8064; for the heathen1471 are dismayed2865 at them1992.

For the customs2708 of the people5971 are vain1892: for one cutteth3772 a tree6086 out of the forest3293, the work4639 of the hands3027 of the workman2796, with the axe4621. customs: Heb. statutes, or, ordinances are vanity

They deck3302 it with silver3701 and with gold2091; they fasten2388 it with nails4548 and with hammers4717, that it move6328 not.

They are upright4749 as the palm tree8560, but speak1696 not: they must needs5375 be borne5375, because they cannot go6805. Be not afraid3372 of them; for they cannot do evil7489, neither also is it in them to do good3190.

Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD3068; thou art great1419, and thy name8034 is great1419 in might1369.

Who would not fear3372 thee, O King4428 of nations1471? for to thee doth it appertain2969: forasmuch as among all the wise2450 men of the nations1471, and in all their kingdoms4438, there is none like unto thee. to: or, it liketh thee

But they are altogether259 brutish1197 and foolish3688: the stock6086 is a doctrine4148 of vanities1892. altogether: Heb. in one, or, at once

Silver3701 spread into plates7554 is brought935 from Tarshish8659, and gold2091 from Uphaz210, the work4639 of the workman2796, and of the hands3027 of the founder6884: blue8504 and purple713 is their clothing3830: they are all the work4639 of cunning2450 men.

But the LORD3068 is the true571 God430, he is the living2416 God430, and an everlasting5769 king4428: at his wrath7110 the earth776 shall tremble7493, and the nations1471 shall not be able to abide3557 his indignation2195. true: Heb. God of truth everlasting: Heb. king of eternity

Thus1836 shall ye say560 unto them, The gods426 that have not3809 made5648 the heavens8065 and the earth778, even they shall perish7 from the earth772, and from under8460 these429 heavens8065.

He hath made6213 the earth776 by his power3581, he hath established3559 the world8398 by his wisdom2451, and hath stretched out5186 the heavens8064 by his discretion8394.

When he uttereth5414 his voice6963, there is a multitude1995 of waters4325 in the heavens8064, and he causeth the vapours5387 to ascend5927 from the ends7097 of the earth776; he maketh6213 lightnings1300 with rain4306, and bringeth forth3318 the wind7307 out of his treasures214. multitude: or, noise with: or, for

Every man120 is brutish1197 in his knowledge1847: every founder6884 is confounded3001 by the graven image6459: for his molten image5262 is falsehood8267, and there is no breath7307 in them. brutish in his knowledge: or, more brutish than to know

They are vanity1892, and the work4639 of errors8595: in the time6256 of their visitation6486 they shall perish6.

The portion2506 of Jacob3290 is not like them: for he is the former3335 of all things; and Israel3478 is the rod7626 of his inheritance5159: The LORD3068 of hosts6635 is his name8034.

Gather up622 thy wares3666 out of the land776, O inhabitant3427 of the fortress4692. inhabitant: Heb. inhabitress

For thus saith559 the LORD3068, Behold, I will sling7049 out the inhabitants3427 of the land776 at this once6471, and will distress6887 them, that they may find4672 it so.

Woe188 is me for my hurt7667! my wound4347 is grievous2470: but I said559, Truly389 this is a grief2483, and I must bear5375 it.

My tabernacle168 is spoiled7703, and all my cords4340 are broken5423: my children1121 are gone forth3318 of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth5186 my tent168 any more, and to set up6965 my curtains3407.

For the pastors7462 are become brutish1197, and have not sought1875 the LORD3068: therefore they shall not prosper7919, and all their flocks4830 shall be scattered6327.

Behold, the noise6963 of the bruit8052 is come935, and a great1419 commotion7494 out of the north6828 country776, to make7760 the cities5892 of Judah3063 desolate8077, and a den4583 of dragons8577.

O LORD3068, I know3045 that the way1870 of man120 is not in himself: it is not in man376 that walketh1980 to direct3559 his steps6806.

O LORD3068, correct3256 me, but with judgment4941; not in thine anger639, lest thou bring me to nothing4591. bring: Heb. diminish me

Pour out8210 thy fury2534 upon the heathen1471 that know3045 thee not, and upon the families4940 that call7121 not on thy name8034: for they have eaten up398 Jacob3290, and devoured398 him, and consumed3615 him, and have made his habitation5116 desolate8074.
