The word1697 of the LORD3068 that came to Jeremiah3414 concerning1697 the dearth1226. the dearth: Heb. the words of the dearths, or, restraints

Judah3063 mourneth56, and the gates8179 thereof languish535; they are black6937 unto the ground776; and the cry6682 of Jerusalem3389 is gone up5927.

And their nobles117 have sent7971 their little ones6810 to the waters4325: they came935 to the pits1356 1360, and found4672 no water4325; they returned7725 with their vessels3627 empty7387; they were ashamed954 and confounded3637, and covered2645 their heads7218.

Because the ground127 is chapt2865, for there was no rain1653 in the earth776, the plowmen406 were ashamed954, they covered2645 their heads7218.

Yea, the hind365 also calved3205 in the field7704, and forsook5800 it, because there was no grass1877.

And the wild asses6501 did stand5975 in the high places8205, they snuffed up7602 the wind7307 like dragons8577; their eyes5869 did fail3615, because there was no grass6212.

O LORD3068, though our iniquities5771 testify6030 against us, do6213 thou it for thy name's8034 sake: for our backslidings4878 are many7231; we have sinned2398 against thee.

O the hope4723 of Israel3478, the saviour3467 thereof in time6256 of trouble6869, why shouldest thou be as a stranger1616 in the land776, and as a wayfaring man732 that turneth aside5186 to tarry for a night3885?

Why shouldest thou be as a man376 astonied1724, as a mighty man1368 that cannot3201 save3467? yet thou, O LORD3068, art in the midst7130 of us, and we are called7121 by thy name8034; leave3240 us not. we: Heb. thy name is called upon us

Thus saith559 the LORD3068 unto this people5971, Thus have they loved157 to wander5128, they have not refrained2820 their feet7272, therefore the LORD3068 doth not accept7521 them; he will now remember2142 their iniquity5771, and visit6485 their sins2403.

Then said559 the LORD3068 unto me, Pray6419 not for this people5971 for their good2896.

When they fast6684, I will not hear8085 their cry7440; and when they offer5927 burnt offering5930 and an oblation4503, I will not accept7521 them: but I will consume3615 them by the sword2719, and by the famine7458, and by the pestilence1698.

Then said559 I, Ah162, Lord136 GOD3069! behold, the prophets5030 say559 unto them, Ye shall not see7200 the sword2719, neither shall ye have famine7458; but I will give5414 you assured571 peace7965 in this place4725. assured: Heb. peace of truth

Then the LORD3068 said559 unto me, The prophets5030 prophesy5012 lies8267 in my name8034: I sent7971 them not, neither have I commanded6680 them, neither spake1696 unto them: they prophesy5012 unto you a false8267 vision2377 and divination7081, and a thing of nought457 434, and the deceit8649 of their heart3820.

Therefore thus saith559 the LORD3068 concerning the prophets5030 that prophesy5012 in my name8034, and I sent7971 them not, yet they say559, Sword2719 and famine7458 shall not be in this land776; By sword2719 and famine7458 shall those prophets5030 be consumed8552.

And the people5971 to whom they prophesy5012 shall be cast out7993 in the streets2351 of Jerusalem3389 because6440 of the famine7458 and the sword2719; and they shall have none to bury6912 them1992, them, their wives802, nor their sons1121, nor their daughters1323: for I will pour8210 their wickedness7451 upon them.

Therefore thou shalt say559 this word1697 unto them; Let mine eyes5869 run down3381 with tears1832 night3915 and day3119, and let them not cease1820: for the virgin1330 daughter1323 of my people5971 is broken7665 with a great1419 breach7667, with a very3966 grievous2470 blow4347.

If I go forth3318 into the field7704, then behold the slain2491 with the sword2719! and if I enter935 into the city5892, then behold them that are sick8463 with famine7458! yea, both the prophet5030 and the priest3548 go about5503 into a land776 that they know3045 not. go about: or, make merchandise against a land, and men acknowledge it not

Hast thou utterly3988 rejected3988 Judah3063? hath thy soul5315 lothed1602 Zion6726? why hast thou smitten5221 us, and there is no healing4832 for us? we looked6960 for peace7965, and there is no good2896; and for the time6256 of healing4832, and behold trouble1205!

We acknowledge3045, O LORD3068, our wickedness7562, and the iniquity5771 of our fathers1: for we have sinned2398 against thee.

Do not abhor5006 us, for thy name's8034 sake, do not disgrace5034 the throne3678 of thy glory3519: remember2142, break6565 not thy covenant1285 with us.

Are there3426 any among the vanities1892 of the Gentiles1471 that can cause rain1652? or can the heavens8064 give5414 showers7241? art not thou he, O LORD3068 our God430? therefore we will wait6960 upon thee: for thou hast made6213 all these things.
