Now Pashur6583 the son1121 of Immer564 the priest3548, who was also chief6496 governor5057 in the house1004 of the LORD3068, heard8085 that Jeremiah3414 prophesied5012 these things1697.
Then Pashur6583 smote5221 Jeremiah3414 the prophet5030, and put5414 him in the stocks4115 that were in the high5945 gate8179 of Benjamin1144, which was by the house1004 of the LORD3068.
And it came to pass on the morrow4283, that Pashur6583 brought forth3318 Jeremiah3414 out of the stocks4115. Then said559 Jeremiah3414 unto him, The LORD3068 hath not called7121 thy name8034 Pashur6583, but Magormissabib4036.
For thus saith559 the LORD3068, Behold, I will make5414 thee a terror4032 to thyself, and to all thy friends157: and they shall fall5307 by the sword2719 of their enemies341, and thine eyes5869 shall behold7200 it: and I will give5414 all Judah3063 into the hand3027 of the king4428 of Babylon894, and he shall carry them captive1540 into Babylon894, and shall slay5221 them with the sword2719.
Moreover I will deliver5414 all the strength2633 of this city5892, and all the labours3018 thereof, and all the precious things3366 thereof, and all the treasures214 of the kings4428 of Judah3063 will I give5414 into the hand3027 of their enemies341, which shall spoil962 them, and take3947 them, and carry935 them to Babylon894.
And thou, Pashur6583, and all that dwell3427 in thine house1004 shall go3212 into captivity7628: and thou shalt come935 to Babylon894, and there thou shalt die4191, and shalt be buried6912 there, thou, and all thy friends157, to whom thou hast prophesied5012 lies8267.
O LORD3068, thou hast deceived6601 me, and I was deceived6601: thou art stronger2388 than I, and hast prevailed3201: I am in derision7814 daily3117, every one mocketh3932 me.
For since1767 I spake1696, I cried out2199, I cried7121 violence2555 and spoil7701; because the word1697 of the LORD3068 was made a reproach2781 unto me, and a derision7047, daily3117.
Then I said559, I will not make mention2142 of him, nor speak1696 any more in his name8034. But his word was in mine heart3820 as a burning1197 fire784 shut up6113 in my bones6106, and I was weary3811 with forbearing3557, and I could3201 not stay.
For I heard8085 the defaming1681 of many7227, fear4032 on every side5439. Report5046, say they, and we will report5046 it. All my familiars582 7965 watched8104 for my halting6763 6761, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed6601, and we shall prevail3201 against him, and we shall take3947 our revenge5360 on him.
But the LORD3068 is with me as a mighty1368 terrible one6184: therefore my persecutors7291 shall stumble3782, and they shall not prevail3201: they shall be greatly3966 ashamed954; for they shall not prosper7919: their everlasting5769 confusion3639 shall never be forgotten7911.
But, O LORD3068 of hosts6635, that triest974 the righteous6662, and seest7200 the reins3629 and the heart3820, let me see7200 thy vengeance5360 on them: for unto thee have I opened1540 my cause7379.
Sing7891 unto the LORD3068, praise1984 ye the LORD3068: for he hath delivered5337 the soul5315 of the poor34 from the hand3027 of evildoers7489.
Cursed779 be the day3117 wherein I was born3205: let not the day3117 wherein my mother517 bare3205 me be blessed1288.
Cursed779 be the man376 who brought tidings1319 to my father1, saying559, A man2145 child1121 is born3205 unto thee; making him very8055 glad8055.
And let that man376 be as the cities5892 which the LORD3068 overthrew2015, and repented5162 not: and let him hear8085 the cry2201 in the morning1242, and the shouting8643 at noontide6256 6672;
Because he slew4191 me not from the womb7358; or that my mother517 might have been my grave6913, and her womb7358 to be always5769 great2030 with me.
Wherefore came I forth3318 out of the womb7358 to see7200 labour5999 and sorrow3015, that my days3117 should be consumed3615 with shame1322?
