They say559, If a man376 put away7971 his wife802, and she go1980 from him, and become another312 man's376, shall he return unto her again7725? shall not that land776 be greatly2610 polluted2610? but thou hast played the harlot2181 with many7227 lovers7453; yet return again7725 to me, saith5002 the LORD3068.
Lift up5375 thine eyes5869 unto the high places8205, and see7200 where375 thou hast not been lien7693 7901 with. In the ways1870 hast thou sat3427 for them, as the Arabian6163 in the wilderness4057; and thou hast polluted2610 the land776 with thy whoredoms2184 and with thy wickedness7451.
Therefore the showers7241 have been withholden4513, and there hath been no latter rain4456; and thou hadst a whore's2181 802 forehead4696, thou refusedst3985 to be ashamed3637.
Wilt thou not from this time cry7121 unto me, My father1, thou art the guide441 of my youth5271?
Will he reserve5201 his anger for ever5769? will he keep8104 it to the end5331? Behold, thou hast spoken1696 and done6213 evil things7451 as thou couldest3201.
The LORD3068 said559 also unto me in the days3117 of Josiah2977 the king4428, Hast thou seen7200 that which backsliding4878 Israel3478 hath done6213? she is gone up1980 upon every high1364 mountain2022 and under8478 every green7488 tree6086, and there hath played the harlot2181.
And I said559 after310 she had done6213 all these things, Turn7725 thou unto me. But she returned7725 not. And her treacherous901 sister269 Judah3063 saw7200 it.
And I saw7200, when for all the causes182 whereby backsliding4878 Israel3478 committed adultery5003 I had put her away7971, and given5414 her a bill5612 of divorce3748; yet her treacherous898 sister269 Judah3063 feared3372 not, but went3212 and played the harlot2181 also.
And it came to pass through the lightness6963 of her whoredom2184, that she defiled2610 the land776, and committed adultery5003 with stones68 and with stocks6086.
And yet for all this her treacherous901 sister269 Judah3063 hath not turned7725 unto me with her whole heart3820, but feignedly8267, saith5002 the LORD3068.
And the LORD3068 said559 unto me, The backsliding4878 Israel3478 hath justified6663 herself5315 more than treacherous898 Judah3063.
Go1980 and proclaim7121 these words1697 toward the north6828, and say559, Return7725, thou backsliding4878 Israel3478, saith5002 the LORD3068; and I will not cause mine anger6440 to fall5307 upon you: for I am merciful2623, saith5002 the LORD3068, and I will not keep5201 anger for ever5769.
Only acknowledge3045 thine iniquity5771, that thou hast transgressed6586 against the LORD3068 thy God430, and hast scattered6340 thy ways1870 to the strangers2114 under every green7488 tree6086, and ye have not obeyed8085 my voice6963, saith5002 the LORD3068.
Turn7725, O backsliding7726 children1121, saith5002 the LORD3068; for I am married1166 unto you: and I will take3947 you one259 of a city5892, and two8147 of a family4940, and I will bring935 you to Zion6726:
And I will give5414 you pastors7462 according to mine heart3820, which shall feed7462 you with knowledge1844 and understanding7919.
And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied7235 and increased6509 in the land776, in those days3117, saith5002 the LORD3068, they shall say559 no more, The ark727 of the covenant1285 of the LORD3068: neither shall it come5927 to mind3820: neither shall they remember2142 it; neither shall they visit6485 it; neither shall that be done6213 any more.
At that time6256 they shall call7121 Jerusalem3389 the throne3678 of the LORD3068; and all the nations1471 shall be gathered6960 unto it, to the name8034 of the LORD3068, to Jerusalem3389: neither shall they walk3212 any more after310 the imagination8307 of their evil7451 heart3820.
In those days3117 the house1004 of Judah3063 shall walk3212 with the house1004 of Israel3478, and they shall come935 together3162 out of the land776 of the north6828 to the land776 that I have given for an inheritance5157 unto your fathers1.
But I said559, How shall I put7896 thee among the children1121, and give5414 thee a pleasant2532 land776, a goodly6643 heritage5159 of the hosts6635 of nations1471? and I said559, Thou shalt call7121 me, My father1; and shalt not turn away7725 from me310.
Surely403 as a wife802 treacherously898 departeth from her husband7453, so have ye dealt treacherously898 with me, O house1004 of Israel3478, saith5002 the LORD3068.
A voice6963 was heard8085 upon the high places8205, weeping1065 and supplications8469 of the children1121 of Israel3478: for they have perverted5753 their way1870, and they have forgotten7911 the LORD3068 their God430.
Return7725, ye backsliding7726 children1121, and I will heal7495 your backslidings4878. Behold, we come857 unto thee; for thou art the LORD3068 our God430.
Truly403 in vain8267 is salvation hoped for from the hills1389, and from the multitude1995 of mountains2022: truly403 in the LORD3068 our God430 is the salvation8668 of Israel3478.
For shame1322 hath devoured398 the labour3018 of our fathers1 from our youth5271; their flocks6629 and their herds1241, their sons1121 and their daughters1323.
We lie down7901 in our shame1322, and our confusion3639 covereth3680 us: for we have sinned2398 against the LORD3068 our God430, we and our fathers1, from our youth5271 even unto this day3117, and have not obeyed8085 the voice6963 of the LORD3068 our God430.
