Thus saith559 the LORD3068; Behold, I will raise up5782 against Babylon894, and against them that dwell3427 in the midst3820 of them that rise up6965 against me, a destroying7843 wind7307; midst: Heb. heart

And will send7971 unto Babylon894 fanners2114, that shall fan2219 her, and shall empty1238 her land776: for in the day3117 of trouble7451 they shall be against her round about5439.

Against him that bendeth1869 let the archer1869 bend1869 his bow7198, and against him that lifteth himself up5927 in his brigandine5630: and spare2550 ye not her young men970; destroy ye utterly2763 all her host6635.

Thus the slain2491 shall fall5307 in the land776 of the Chaldeans3778, and they that are thrust through1856 in her streets2351.

For Israel3478 hath not been forsaken488, nor Judah3063 of his God430, of the LORD3068 of hosts6635; though their land776 was filled4390 with sin817 against the Holy One6918 of Israel3478.

Flee out5127 of the midst8432 of Babylon894, and deliver4422 every man376 his soul5315: be not cut off1826 in her iniquity5771; for this is the time6256 of the LORD'S3068 vengeance5360; he will render7999 unto her a recompence1576.

Babylon894 hath been a golden2091 cup3563 in the LORD'S3068 hand3027, that made all the earth776 drunken7937: the nations1471 have drunken8354 of her wine3196; therefore the nations1471 are mad1984.

Babylon894 is suddenly6597 fallen5307 and destroyed7665: howl3213 for her; take3947 balm6875 for her pain4341, if so be she may be healed7495.

We would have healed7495 Babylon894, but she is not healed7495: forsake5800 her, and let us go3212 every one376 into his own country776: for her judgment4941 reacheth5060 unto heaven8064, and is lifted up5375 even to the skies7834.

The LORD3068 hath brought forth3318 our righteousness6666: come935, and let us declare5608 in Zion6726 the work4639 of the LORD3068 our God430.

Make bright1305 the arrows2671; gather4390 the shields7982: the LORD3068 hath raised up5782 the spirit7307 of the kings4428 of the Medes4074: for his device4209 is against Babylon894, to destroy7843 it; because it is the vengeance5360 of the LORD3068, the vengeance5360 of his temple1964. bright: Heb. pure

Set up5375 the standard5251 upon the walls2346 of Babylon894, make the watch4929 strong2388, set up6965 the watchmen8104, prepare3559 the ambushes693: for the LORD3068 hath both devised2161 and done6213 that which he spake1696 against the inhabitants3427 of Babylon894. ambushes: Heb. liers in wait

O thou that dwellest7931 7931 upon many7227 waters4325, abundant7227 in treasures214, thine end7093 is come935, and the measure520 of thy covetousness1215.

The LORD3068 of hosts6635 hath sworn7650 by himself5315, saying, Surely I will fill4390 thee with men120, as with caterpillers3218; and they shall lift up6030 a shout1959 against thee. by himself: Heb. by his soul lift up: Heb. utter

He hath made6213 the earth776 by his power3581, he hath established3559 the world8398 by his wisdom2451, and hath stretched out5186 the heaven8064 by his understanding8394.

When he uttereth5414 his voice6963, there is a multitude1995 of waters4325 in the heavens8064; and he causeth the vapours5387 to ascend5927 from the ends7097 of the earth776: he maketh6213 lightnings1300 with rain4306, and bringeth forth3318 the wind7307 out of his treasures214. multitude: or, noise

Every man120 is brutish1197 by his knowledge1847; every founder6884 is confounded3001 by the graven image6459: for his molten image5262 is falsehood8267, and there is no breath7307 in them. is brutish: or, is more brutish than to know

They are vanity1892, the work4639 of errors8595: in the time6256 of their visitation6486 they shall perish6.

The portion2506 of Jacob3290 is not like them; for he is the former3335 of all things: and Israel is the rod7626 of his inheritance5159: the LORD3068 of hosts6635 is his name8034.

Thou art my battle axe4661 and weapons3627 of war4421: for with thee will I break in pieces5310 the nations1471, and with thee will I destroy7843 kingdoms4467; with thee: or, in thee, or, by thee

And with thee will I break in pieces5310 the horse5483 and his rider7392; and with thee will I break in pieces5310 the chariot7393 and his rider7392;

With thee also will I break in pieces5310 man376 and woman802; and with thee will I break in pieces5310 old2205 and young5288; and with thee will I break in pieces5310 the young man970 and the maid1330;

I will also break in pieces5310 with thee the shepherd7462 and his flock5739; and with thee will I break in pieces5310 the husbandman406 and his yoke of oxen6776; and with thee will I break in pieces5310 captains6346 and rulers5461.

And I will render7999 unto Babylon894 and to all the inhabitants3427 of Chaldea3778 all their evil7451 that they have done6213 in Zion6726 in your sight5869, saith5002 the LORD3068.

Behold, I am against thee, O destroying4889 mountain2022, saith5002 the LORD3068, which destroyest7843 all the earth776: and I will stretch out5186 mine hand3027 upon thee, and roll thee down1556 from the rocks5553, and will make5414 thee a burnt8316 mountain2022.

And they shall not take3947 of thee a stone68 for a corner6438, nor a stone68 for foundations4146; but thou shalt be desolate8077 for ever5769, saith5002 the LORD3068. desolate: Heb. everlasting desolations

Set ye up5375 a standard5251 in the land776, blow8628 the trumpet7782 among the nations1471, prepare6942 the nations1471 against her, call together8085 against her the kingdoms4467 of Ararat780, Minni4508, and Ashchenaz813; appoint6485 a captain2951 against her; cause the horses5483 to come up5927 as the rough5569 caterpillers3218.

Prepare6942 against her the nations1471 with the kings4428 of the Medes4074, the captains6346 thereof, and all the rulers5461 thereof, and all the land776 of his dominion4475.

And the land776 shall tremble7493 and sorrow2342: for every purpose4284 of the LORD3068 shall be performed6965 against Babylon894, to make7760 the land776 of Babylon894 a desolation8047 without an inhabitant3427.

The mighty men1368 of Babylon894 have forborn2308 to fight3898, they have remained3427 in their holds4679: their might1369 hath failed5405; they became as women802: they have burned3341 her dwellingplaces4908; her bars1280 are broken7665.

One post7323 shall run7323 to meet7125 another7323, and one messenger5046 to meet7125 another5046, to shew5046 the king4428 of Babylon894 that his city5892 is taken3920 at one end7097,

And that the passages4569 are stopped8610, and the reeds98 they have burned8313 with fire784, and the men582 of war4421 are affrighted926.

For thus saith559 the LORD3068 of hosts6635, the God430 of Israel3478; The daughter1323 of Babylon894 is like a threshingfloor1637, it is time6256 to thresh1869 her: yet a little while4592, and the time6256 of her harvest7105 shall come935. it is: or, in the time that he thresheth her

Nebuchadrezzar5019 the king4428 of Babylon894 hath devoured398 me, he hath crushed2000 me, he hath made3322 me an empty7385 vessel3627, he hath swallowed me up1104 like a dragon8577, he hath filled4390 his belly3770 with my delicates5730, he hath cast me out1740.

The violence2555 done to me and to my flesh7607 be upon Babylon894, shall the inhabitant3427 of Zion6726 say559; and my blood1818 upon the inhabitants3427 of Chaldea3778, shall Jerusalem3389 say559. The violence: Heb. My violence flesh: or, remainder inhabitant: Heb. inhabitress

Therefore thus saith559 the LORD3068; Behold, I will plead7378 thy cause7379, and take vengeance5358 for thee5360; and I will dry up2717 her sea3220, and make her springs4726 dry3001.

And Babylon894 shall become heaps1530, a dwellingplace4583 for dragons8577, an astonishment8047, and an hissing8322, without an inhabitant3427.

They shall roar7580 together3162 like lions3715: they shall yell5286 as lions'738 whelps1484. yell: or, shake themselves

In their heat2527 I will make7896 their feasts4960, and I will make them drunken7937, that they may rejoice5937, and sleep3462 a perpetual5769 sleep8142, and not wake6974, saith5002 the LORD3068.

I will bring them down3381 like lambs3733 to the slaughter2873, like rams352 with he goats6260.

How is Sheshach8347 taken3920! and how is the praise8416 of the whole earth776 surprised8610! how is Babylon894 become an astonishment8047 among the nations1471!

The sea3220 is come up5927 upon Babylon894: she is covered3680 with the multitude1995 of the waves1530 thereof.

Her cities5892 are a desolation8047, a dry6723 land776, and a wilderness6160, a land776 wherein no man376 dwelleth3427, neither doth any son1121 of man120 pass5674 thereby2004.

And I will punish6485 Bel1078 in Babylon894, and I will bring forth3318 out of his mouth6310 that which he hath swallowed up1105: and the nations1471 shall not flow together5102 any more unto him: yea, the wall2346 of Babylon894 shall fall5307.

My people5971, go ye out3318 of the midst8432 of her, and deliver4422 ye every man376 his soul5315 from the fierce2740 anger639 of the LORD3068.

And lest your heart3824 faint7401, and ye fear3372 for the rumour8052 that shall be heard8085 in the land776; a rumour8052 shall both come935 one year8141, and after310 that in another year8141 shall come a rumour8052, and violence2555 in the land776, ruler4910 against ruler4910. lest: or, let not

Therefore, behold, the days3117 come935, that I will do judgment6485 upon the graven images6456 of Babylon894: and her whole land776 shall be confounded954, and all her slain2491 shall fall5307 in the midst8432 of her. do: Heb. visit upon

Then the heaven8064 and the earth776, and all that is therein, shall sing7442 for Babylon894: for the spoilers7703 shall come935 unto her from the north6828, saith5002 the LORD3068.

As1571 Babylon894 hath caused the slain2491 of Israel3478 to fall5307, so at Babylon894 shall fall5307 the slain2491 of all the earth776. As: or, Both Babylon is to fall, O ye slain of Israel, and with Babylon, etc the earth: or, the country

Ye that have escaped6405 the sword2719, go away1980, stand not still5975: remember2142 the LORD3068 afar off7350, and let Jerusalem3389 come5927 into your mind3824.

We are confounded954, because we have heard8085 reproach2781: shame3639 hath covered3680 our faces6440: for strangers2114 are come935 into the sanctuaries4720 of the LORD'S3068 house1004.

Wherefore, behold, the days3117 come935, saith5002 the LORD3068, that I will do judgment6485 upon her graven images6456: and through all her land776 the wounded2491 shall groan602.

Though Babylon894 should mount up5927 to heaven8064, and though she should fortify1219 the height4791 of her strength5797, yet 227 from me shall spoilers7703 come935 unto her, saith5002 the LORD3068.

A sound6963 of a cry2201 cometh from Babylon894, and great1419 destruction7667 from the land776 of the Chaldeans3778:

Because the LORD3068 hath spoiled7703 Babylon894, and destroyed6 out of her the great1419 voice6963; when her waves1530 do roar1993 like great7227 waters4325, a noise7588 of their voice6963 is uttered5414:

Because the spoiler7703 is come935 upon her, even upon Babylon894, and her mighty men1368 are taken3920, every one of their bows7198 is broken2865: for the LORD3068 God410 of recompences1578 shall surely7999 requite7999.

And I will make drunk7937 her princes8269, and her wise2450 men, her captains6346, and her rulers5461, and her mighty men1368: and they shall sleep3462 a perpetual5769 sleep8142, and not wake6974, saith5002 the King4428, whose name8034 is the LORD3068 of hosts6635.

Thus saith559 the LORD3068 of hosts6635; The broad7342 walls2346 of Babylon894 shall be utterly6209 broken6209, and her high1364 gates8179 shall be burned3341 with fire784; and the people5971 shall labour3021 in vain7385, and the folk3816 in1767 the fire784, and they shall be weary3286. The broad: or, The walls of broad Babylon broken: or, made naked

The word1697 which Jeremiah3414 the prophet5030 commanded6680 Seraiah8304 the son1121 of Neriah5374, the son1121 of Maaseiah4271, when he went3212 with Zedekiah6667 the king4428 of Judah3063 into Babylon894 in the fourth7243 year8141 of his reign4427. And this Seraiah8304 was a quiet4496 prince8269. with: or, on the behalf of quiet: or, prince of Menucha, or, chief chamberlain

So Jeremiah3414 wrote3789 in a259 book5612 all the evil7451 that should come935 upon Babylon894, even all these words1697 that are written3789 against Babylon894.

And Jeremiah3414 said559 to Seraiah8304, When thou comest935 to Babylon894, and shalt see7200, and shalt read7121 all these words1697;

Then shalt thou say559, O LORD3068, thou hast spoken1696 against this place4725, to cut it off3772, that none shall remain3427 in it, neither man120 nor beast929, but that it shall be desolate8077 for ever5769. desolate: Heb. desolations

And it shall be, when thou hast made an end3615 of reading7121 this book5612, that thou shalt bind7194 a stone68 to it, and cast7993 it into the midst8432 of Euphrates6578:

And thou shalt say559, Thus shall Babylon894 sink8257, and shall not rise6965 from6440 the evil7451 that I will bring935 upon her: and they shall be weary3286. Thus far are the words1697 of Jeremiah3414.
