2And they shall spread7849 them before the sun8121, and the moon3394, and all the host6635 of heaven8064, whom they have loved157, and whom they have served5647, and after310 whom they have walked1980, and whom they have sought1875, and whom they have worshipped7812: they shall not be gathered622, nor be buried6912; they shall be for dung1828 upon the face6440 of the earth127.
3And death4194 shall be chosen977 rather than life2416 by all the residue7611 of them that remain7604 of this evil7451 family4940, which remain7604 in all the places4725 whither I have driven5080 them, saith5002 the LORD3068 of hosts6635.
4Moreover thou shalt say559 unto them, Thus saith559 the LORD3068; Shall they fall5307, and not arise6965? shall he turn away7725, and not return7725?
5Why then is this people5971 of Jerusalem3389 slidden back7725 by a perpetual5329 backsliding4878? they hold2388 fast deceit8649, they refuse3985 to return7725.
6I hearkened7181 and heard8085, but they spake not aright1696: no man376 repented5162 him of5921 his wickedness7451, saying559, What have I done6213? every one turned7725 to his course4794, as the horse5483 rusheth7857 into the battle4421.
7Yea, the stork2624 in the heaven8064 knoweth3045 her appointed times4150; and the turtle8449 and the crane5483 and the swallow5693 observe8104 the time6256 of their coming935; but my people5971 know3045 not the judgment4941 of the LORD3068.
8How do ye say559, We are wise2450, and the law8451 of the LORD3068 is with us? Lo, certainly403 in vain8267 made6213 he it; the pen5842 of the scribes5608 is in vain8267.
9The wise2450 men are ashamed3001, they are dismayed2865 and taken3920: lo, they have rejected3988 the word1697 of the LORD3068; and what wisdom2451 is in them?
10Therefore will I give5414 their wives802 unto others312, and their fields7704 to them that shall inherit3423 them: for every one from the least6996 even unto the greatest1419 is given1214 to covetousness1215, from the prophet5030 even unto the priest3548 every one dealeth6213 falsely8267.
11For they have healed7495 the hurt7667 of the daughter1323 of my people5971 slightly7043, saying559, Peace7965, peace7965; when there is no peace7965.
12Were they ashamed3001 when they had committed6213 abomination8441? nay, they were not at all954 ashamed954, neither could3045 they blush3637: therefore shall they fall5307 among them that fall5307: in the time6256 of their visitation6486 they shall be cast down3782, saith559 the LORD3068.
13I will surely622 consume5486 them, saith5002 the LORD3068: there shall be no grapes6025 on the vine1612, nor figs8384 on the fig tree8384, and the leaf5929 shall fade5034; and the things that I have given5414 them shall pass away5674 from them.
14Why do we sit still3427? assemble622 yourselves, and let us enter935 into the defenced4013 cities5892, and let us be silent1826 there: for the LORD3068 our God430 hath put us to silence1826, and given us water4325 of gall7219 to drink8248, because we have sinned2398 against the LORD3068.
15We looked6960 for peace7965, but no good2896 came; and for a time6256 of health4832, and behold trouble1205!
16The snorting5170 of his horses5483 was heard8085 from Dan1835: the whole land776 trembled7493 at the sound6963 of the neighing4684 of his strong ones47; for they are come935, and have devoured398 the land776, and all4393 that is in it; the city5892, and those that dwell3427 therein.
17For, behold, I will send7971 serpents5175, cockatrices6848, among you, which will not be charmed3908, and they shall bite5391 you, saith5002 the LORD3068.
18When I would comfort4010 myself against sorrow3015, my heart3820 is faint1742 in me.
19Behold the voice6963 of the cry7775 of the daughter1323 of my people5971 because of them that dwell in a far4801 country776: Is not the LORD3068 in Zion6726? is not her king4428 in her? Why have they provoked me to anger3707 with their graven images6456, and with strange5236 vanities1892?
20The harvest7105 is past5674, the summer7019 is ended3615, and we are not saved3467.
21For the hurt7667 of the daughter1323 of my people5971 am I hurt7665; I am black6937; astonishment8047 hath taken hold2388 on me.
22Is there no balm6875 in Gilead1568; is there no physician7495 there? why then3588 is not the health724 of the daughter1323 of my people5971 recovered5927?
