Then answered6030 Zophar6691 the Naamathite5284, and said559,

Should not the multitude7230 of words1697 be answered6030? and should a man376 full of talk8193 be justified6663? full: Heb. of lips

Should thy lies907 make2790 men4962 hold their peace2790? and when thou mockest3932, shall no man make thee ashamed3637? lies: or, devices

For thou hast said559, My doctrine3948 is pure2134, and I am clean1249 in thine eyes5869.

But199 oh that5414 God433 would speak1696, and open6605 his lips8193 against thee;

And that he would shew5046 thee the secrets8587 of wisdom2451, that they are double3718 to that which is8454! Know3045 therefore that God433 exacteth5382 of thee less than thine iniquity5771 deserveth.

Canst thou by searching2714 find out4672 God433? canst thou find4672 out the Almighty7706 unto perfection8503?

It is as high1363 as heaven8064; what canst thou do6466? deeper6013 than hell7585; what canst thou know3045? as high: Heb. the heights of heaven

The measure4055 thereof is longer752 than the earth776, and broader7342 than the sea3220.

If he cut off2498, and shut up5462, or gather together6950, then who can hinder7725 him? cut: or, make a change hinder: Heb. turn him away?

For he knoweth3045 vain7723 men4962: he seeth7200 wickedness205 also; will he not then consider995 it?

For vain5014 man376 would be wise3823, though man120 be born3205 like a wild ass's6501 colt5895. vain: Heb. empty

If thou prepare3559 thine heart3820, and stretch6566 out thine hands3709 toward him;

If iniquity205 be in thine hand3027, put it far away7368, and let not wickedness5766 dwell7931 in thy tabernacles168.

For then shalt thou lift up5375 thy face6440 without spot3971; yea, thou shalt be stedfast3332, and shalt not fear3372:

Because thou shalt forget7911 thy misery5999, and remember2142 it as waters4325 that pass away5674:

And thine age2465 shall be clearer6965 than the noonday6672; thou shalt shine forth5774, thou shalt be as the morning1242. be clearer: Heb. shall arise above the noon-day

And thou shalt be secure982, because there is3426 hope8615; yea, thou shalt dig2658 about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest7901 in safety983.

Also thou shalt lie down7257, and none shall make thee afraid2729; yea, many7227 shall make suit2470 unto thee6440. make suit: Heb. intreat thy face

But the eyes5869 of the wicked7563 shall fail3615, and they shall not escape6 4498, and their hope8615 shall be as the giving up4646 of the ghost5315. they shall: Heb. flight shall perish from them the giving: or, a puff of breath
